The Real SEO Strategy: What AI Can’t Replace and Why Experience Still Wins
By Blair Witkowski — Founder of Coastal Marketing Strategies
Most business owners today are confused about SEO, and it’s not their fault. The industry is full of noise. One day it’s all about backlinks. The next day it’s schema. Then it’s AI content, ChatGPT prompts, and “AI SEO hacks” that supposedly rank your site overnight.
The truth is simpler and tougher: real SEO still works, but only if you actually understand what makes Google trust a business.
AI hasn’t changed that. It’s just made it more obvious who knows what they’re doing.
I’ve built and ranked websites across nearly every competitive market you can imagine—garage doors, gutters, concrete, home services, e-commerce, affiliate, lifestyle, and more. Through Coastal Marketing Strategies, Garage Door Galaxy, Gutter Pro HQ, and Tech Writer EDC, I’ve tested everything that works and everything that doesn’t.
What I’m about to share with you isn’t theory. It’s the exact framework that’s allowed my brands and clients to thrive in the age of AI while others chase quick wins that never last.
1. The Anchor: Teaching Google Who You Really Are
Let’s start with the foundation—entity recognition. That’s the technical term for how Google and AI models figure out who your business is, what you do, and why you’re trustworthy.
If your name, address, and descriptions don’t match across your website, Google Business Profile, and citations, Google literally doesn’t know it’s all the same business. You’ve just made its job harder, and it rewards clarity.
Here’s what this looks like in practice.
When I built Garage Door Galaxy, I didn’t start by designing a fancy logo or writing catchy slogans. I built a clean brand identity: consistent name, location, ownership, and service data. Then I linked it across other trusted sources like Coastal Marketing Strategies and Garage Door SEO Experts.

Within months, Google started associating my name, agency, and directory under one umbrella entity. That’s when things started to move fast. Every mention, every backlink, every schema tag reinforced who we were.
That’s the secret most agencies miss. They chase keywords before Google even knows who they are. But when your brand becomes understood by search engines, ranking gets easier because Google starts connecting your web presence like a puzzle that finally fits.
2. The Scale: Building Topical Authority That’s Impossible to Fake
Most SEO campaigns fail because they stop at the surface. They build a few pages, write some keyword-rich content, and hope for the best.
But Google and AI models don’t just want to see what you do—they want to see that you’ve covered your topic from every possible angle.
That’s where topical authority comes in.
Let’s look at Gutter Pro HQ, one of my national directories. We didn’t just build a homepage and a few service pages. We built an interconnected web of content—hundreds of city-specific pages, contractor profiles, and resource articles that map out the entire U.S. gutter industry.

Now, when someone searches for “gutter installation near me,” Google already knows: this site owns the topic. It’s comprehensive, structured, and supported by data.
The same principle works for local companies. If you’re a garage door installer in Nashville, don’t just build a “Garage Door Installation” page. Build supporting pages for opener repair, spring replacement, garage door safety, and emergency repair. Then add local versions—one for each suburb or city you serve.
Every page becomes a signal that reinforces your authority. And when your internal linking connects all that content intelligently, Google and AI tools start to trust you as the source in your area.
Topical authority is the new SEO moat. It’s how you keep competitors out of your lane, no matter how much they spend.
3. The Data: How Trust Becomes the Real Algorithm
In the early days of SEO, you could fake authority. Not anymore.
AI-driven ranking systems look for one thing above all else: trust.
And you can’t fake trust. It’s built over time, through consistency, transparency, and a reputation that matches what you say online.
That’s what I’ve learned firsthand with Tech Writer EDC, my affiliate and product review site. We don’t post fake reviews or AI-written summaries. We test every product we feature. We take the photos, write the copy, and put our names on it.

And here’s what happens: Google rewards that. Not because we tricked it, but because trust leaves a digital footprint. Reviews, real photos, repeat visitors, linked mentions, author bios—they all add up to what Google now calls Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T).
It’s the same thing that AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity use to recommend businesses.
When I asked ChatGPT how it decides which local companies to recommend, it said it looks for:
- Consistent local information (entity clarity)
- Trust signals (reviews and reputation)
- Authority content (depth and topical coverage)
Sound familiar? It’s the same playbook we’ve been using for years. The difference is now machines are using it too.
4. How AI Search Actually Works for Local Businesses
Here’s what most business owners don’t realize: AI isn’t replacing Google, it’s filtering it.
When someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini for “the best garage door installer in Dallas,” the AI doesn’t crawl the entire internet in real time. It pulls from trusted, high-authority websites that are already well-known to Google.
That means your business only appears in AI recommendations if:
- Your name and data are consistent across major platforms
- You have verified local authority (real reviews, real projects)
- You’ve published relevant, structured content that AI can parse and summarize
In other words, AI is just using your SEO signals to answer questions faster.
So while everyone’s panicking that AI is killing SEO, I see the opposite. It’s just filtering out lazy marketing.
That’s why I tell my clients: don’t fight AI, feed it.
The more accurate, organized, and trustworthy your digital footprint is, the more AI tools will use your content to answer people’s questions.
And here’s the kicker—when someone sees your business name show up in an AI recommendation, it’s almost a guaranteed conversion. AI doesn’t show 10 results. It shows one. You want to be that one.
5. The Future: Moving Faster Than the Algorithm
Search engines used to reward patience. Now, they reward speed and precision.
When we launched Garage Door Galaxy, we didn’t spend months planning strategy. We launched fast, built a structured sitemap, optimized the core entity data, and filled in the content gaps aggressively.
Within weeks, it ranked in multiple cities across the U.S.
The same model worked for Gutter Pro HQ, which now dominates hundreds of city-specific searches nationwide.

The lesson: when you move fast and build right, you can outpace larger competitors who are still waiting for their agencies to send another monthly report.
The key is to document everything—track rankings, monitor conversions, and use data to constantly improve. The faster you adapt, the more unstoppable your digital footprint becomes.
6. The Synthesis: What Coastal Marketing Strategies Does Differently
So how does this all come together?
At Coastal Marketing Strategies, we don’t just build websites or do SEO. We build digital ecosystems that teach Google who you are, prove you’re the authority, and earn you trust signals across multiple platforms—Google, AI search, and beyond.
It’s the same framework I’ve used to scale every brand I own.
Whether it’s turning Garage Door Galaxy into the largest independent installer directory in the U.S., or using Gutter Pro HQ to organize an entire industry, the method doesn’t change. It’s about building clarity, consistency, and credibility.
We apply those same principles to every client project—from local roofers to national home service brands.
This isn’t about chasing algorithms. It’s about building brands that Google can’t ignore.
Why Experience Still Wins
AI didn’t kill SEO. It killed shortcuts.
You can’t buy your way to the top with templates, fake backlinks, or keyword stuffing anymore. You have to earn it through clarity, credibility, and execution.
That’s why I love working with real business owners and contractors—people who care about their work. If you show the same care online that you do on the job site, SEO becomes simple: show up, prove it, stay consistent.
If your SEO hasn’t been working, it’s not because the system is broken. It’s because your strategy doesn’t match how the internet actually thinks now.
That’s what I fix.
And that’s what Coastal Marketing Strategies is built on: helping real businesses win real customers by building the kind of digital footprint AI can’t fake.
